Castle

Castle is a lager owned and brewed by South African Breweries (SAB), which carries it among its local brands. It is brewed to the same recipe used since 1895, so that 1895 date belongs to the recipe rather than to a founding of the brand or the brewery.

Castle is brewed to the same recipe used since 1895, and its ingredients are named and local: hops from the Waboomskraal Valley near George, barley from Caledon and maize from the Free State. A fixed recipe plus those three named growing areas is what SAB puts behind the beer.

Serve Castle cold. SAB describes it as traditionally served cold at a braai or while watching sport with friends, which is the occasion the brand builds around. There is no ritual to it beyond temperature and company.
