Havana Club Añejo Especial is a blend of rums from the fermented molasses of sugarcane harvested in Cuba. Anejo Especial is distilled using column stills and aged for about five years under the watchful eye of Don Jose Navarro, Havana Club's Maestro Ronero. The product of the blend is then returned into casks before bottling, which makes it double-aged.
In 1878 Jose Arechabala founded the distillery of the Havana Club label, which stands for traditional and unique Rums with remarkable quality. As with most Rum, thick, sticky, sweet molasses form the basis for Havana Club Añejo Especial Rum production. Molasses is the by-product of sugar production. The molasses is combined with yeast and water and then distilled in a column still and aged in white oak barrels. The name "Havana Club" captures Cuba's rum-making heritage and the unique atmosphere of Havana. Havana Club is closely entwined with Cuban culture, and Cubans take pride in what has become a national icon.
Havana Club Añejo Especial's golden colour announces the rich and round taste of the rum. The woodiness coming through from the barrels as you smell the rum reveals the notes of spice, orange & floral brought by the second finish in young oak barrels. It's a delight to taste, as it is round with some creaminess and notes of vanilla and caramel, a hint of tobacco, cinnamon & orange peel.
