Avión Reserva 44, an extra añejo expression, was launched in 2013, four years after the brand debuted. Based on Avión Silver, Reserva 44 is brewed with 44 flavour notes of aromas such as, luscious fruits, roasted agave, spices and warm vanilla. Aged in old oak barrels for 43 months and then aged in small oak barrels that rotate every day for another 30 days, making the total ageing process, 44 months. This gem uses exquisite packaging and hand-numbered glass bottles, individually signed by the founder and president, Ken Austin.
Born from agave grown at the highest elevations in Jesus Maria, Jalisco, and forged through the vibrancy of modern Mexico, Tequila Avión is an award-winning tequila that defines a new standard of quality and taste. Produced with fifth generation growers from among the finest Blue Weber agave, the ultra-premium tequila's distinct flavours are achieved through a combination of slow-roasting at lower temperatures to protect the natural flavours of the agave and an ultra-slow filtration process which creates an unusually smooth taste profile.
On the nose, Avión Reserva 44 offers a cognac oak aroma, and butter with pleasant aromas of cherry, fruit, and caramel. There is mild cinnamon, some agave sweetness, spices, gentle heat and honey, soft vanilla and cream/caramel, leather, and smoky aromas, which is a delicious nose. On the tongue, it discloses medium oil, oak, some chocolate, dried fruit, a touch of spice, creamy soft caramel, caramel, vanilla, and fruit. The taste is smooth and balanced, and even at this level, there is a reflective sweetness of agave.
Reserva 44 isn’t intended for cocktails, though it’d surely make a delightful Margarita. But it’s meant for sipping and savouring, and in that role, it’s exceptional, gentle yet robust enough that water or ice aren’t needed.
