Tokara

Tokara is a family-owned wine estate in the Banghoek Valley, on the upper slopes of the Simonsberg mountain in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The first Cabernet Sauvignon vines were planted there in 1996, which dates the vineyards rather than the property itself.

Tokara is planted on the upper slopes of the Simonsberg mountain, in the Banghoek Valley. In the cellar the grapes are hand-sorted and crushed at rooftop level, then gravity-fed to underground vaulted cellars for maturation before bottling. The range covers Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc across the Premium, Reserve and Directors Reserve collections.

At the estate the wines are tasted in the tasting room alongside a cheese platter and the estate's own olive oils. That is the pairing the producer puts on its own table, so cheese and olive oil is a sound place to start with a bottle at home.
