Ardbeg was founded in 1815 by John Macdougall on Islay, Scotland, and has been owned by The Glenmorangie Company since 1997. It makes peated single malt Scotch whisky. Its core expressions are Ten Years Old, Uigeadail and Corryvreckan, each matured in a different cask type.
Ardbeg's malt is peated to a minimum of 55ppm and kilned over burning peat before distillation in traditional copper pot stills, where a purifier on the spirit still's lyne arm increases copper contact and reflux. The core expressions use different cask types: Ten Years Old matures in bourbon barrels and Corryvreckan in new French oak. Uigeadail is matured in a combination of bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks and is non-chill filtered.
