The grapes come mainly from a ten-year-old vineyard, located on a sunny, north-west facing slope on the farm Ongegund supplemented by a small quantity from 20-year-old vines on Maastricht. Great care is taken when extracting colour and fruit from the grapes, as well as ageing, which took place in new and second-fill French oak barrels to ensure the best flavour profile from this notoriously tricky cultivar.

Durbanville Hills was started by nine vineyard owners in the Durbanville district, who joined forces with Distell. The producer is based in Durbanville, Western Cape, South Africa. Its grapes are sourced only from shareholder-growers farming within the Durbanville appellation.

Durbanville Hills sources its grapes only from shareholder-growers farming within the Durbanville appellation, an area cooled by sea breezes off False Bay and Table Bay that favour slow ripening. Member farms follow Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) practices and protect 320 hectares of Renosterveld on their land as part of the Biodiversity Wine Initiative.
