Neil Ellis Wines was founded in 1984 by Neil Ellis in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Ellis began by sourcing grapes from vineyards he did not own, in the Stellenbosch district and under the restrictive quota system prevalent at the time, and made wine in rented cellar space.
Site is what Neil Ellis works with. The Groenekloof vineyards, where the Atlantic meets the Cape West coast, are dryland sites of decomposed granite with deep red soils, farmed on bush vines. The producer states that it is IPW and WIETA certified and describes itself as a certified sustainable winery.
