The story of La Motte
La Motte is a wine producer in the Franschhoek Valley. The land was granted to Hans Hendrik Hattingh in 1695 and bought in 1709 by the estate's first French Huguenot owner, Pierre Joubert. Viticulture began in 1752, when Huguenot descendant Gabriël du Toit planted 4,000 vines. Dr. Anton Rupert bought the farm in 1970, and the estate is run today under the guidance of its owner, Hanneli Rupert.
